Fusion dancing is a mix of differing disciplines (Hip-hop, Contemporary, Jazz) spontaneously creating choreographed cohesive dance style. It may employ any dance technique, with arbitrary combination of techniques, associated with any type of dance. It almost boarders on freestyle but …has vibe to it.

Ballet dancing is a classical style of expressive dancing based on the French court dance steps with gestures, movements, grace, and fluidity usually having a storyline with characters, a beginning and end.

Im sure you’ve seen quite a bit of this? The elegance and discipline is the foundation to most dances – excepting street, hip-hop and the later styles seen today. Ballet classes almost becomes a space for one to block out the wiles of the day and zone inwards (into your soul).

Some of the most famous choreographed pieces for Ballet are Sleeping Beauty, Gizelle, The Nutcracker and then you get the more modern side like that of Jiri Killian’s (Netherlands Dance Theatre Company) Black & White

Contemporary dancing is s a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Its foundations are from Ballet.

Contemporary is not associated with specific dance techniques, but rather with a dance philosophy. In it, people try to explore the natural energy and emotions of their bodies to produce dances that are often very personal.

This may border on Lyrical dance which uses the words of a song to give a choreographer/dancer expression to their belief systems, their emotions and try to tell their side of a story or their perspective about a day-to-day issue.

Jazz is a dance with moves and steps consisting of fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns. Jazz is a vibrant style. Jazz is one of the most popular and well known forms of dance.

Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions.

In a Jazz class the dancers also learn many fun and trendy dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. It’s a great foundation to get into the dance industry with as it has a lot of core elements needed at dance auditions and in musicals especially.

Line Dancing is a choreographed dances with a repeating series of steps that are performed in unison by a group of people in lines or rows, most often without the dancers contacting one another. Music can range from either pop or Country music or anything in between.

It is a great way to get everyone out on the dance floor. The most popular line dances are very common requests for wedding receptions and other big gatherings with family, friends, and co-workers.

While the list of line dances is extensive, you can start by learning the ones that are most often requested. Once you join a group of dancers out on the dance floor, you can easily pick up new steps for a variety of different line dances. All the dancers performing a line dance face the same direction and perform the steps at the same time. This usually is a dance easily used to impress at weddings or social dance events. The combinations look easy and can be taught to your friends.
